York Driving Test Centre
At the York DTC you may not enter the car park more
than 10 minutes before your test time. On arrival at
the test centre you will reverse with your instructor
into a parking bay. Toilets are located within the test
centre.
In the test centre take a seat with your instructor
and wait for an examiner to come and call your name,
check your documents are in order and ask you to sign
a declaration that the car is road worthy and insured
for test purposes.
The examiner will then take you outside where you will
be asked to identify your vehicle and perform an eyesight
test by reading a number plate from 20.3 metres, you
will then be asked to answer two of the show me tell
me questions.
The driving
test
The driving test will last approximately 40 minutes,
during the drive the examiner will try to ensure that
you cover a wide variety of different road conditions.
From quiet low speed roads to busy high-speed roads
and town or city centre driving. You will also be required
to undertake several set manoeuvres (moving off on hills
and at angles). The examiner will require you to undertake
two of the following manoeuvres and optionally the emergency
stop:
The marking system
Faults are recorded by the examiner during the test
and are recorded as minor or major driving faults on
the test sheet.
Minor faults are recorded as driving
faults and you are allowed up to 15 driving faults.
More than three faults on any subject may result in
a major fault been awarded.
Major driving faults are recorded
as serious or dangerous, with just one major driving
fault required to fail.
You can be assured that during your driving test you
will have reached a standard of driving where you will
be able to deal safely and skillfully with any situation
that may arise.
